Traveling through Russia is a real adventure
Russia is an interesting country. Vodka, caviar, a history of communism, and very interesting people. Make sure that you spend enough time in Moscow. You can begin your trip across Russia there too.

Then be sure to get off and spend some time in Saint Petersburg, which is on the Baltic Sea. UNESCO has named Saint Petersburg as a world heritage site. It is also Russia's second largest city and largest in Northern Europe.

Planning your Trip Across Russia

Making travel arrangements to take the Trans-Siberian Railway is not very easy. We found the Way to Russia website, which caters to tourists a pretty good bet.

The Trans-Siberian is known for stopping for long periods at stations. This allows passengers to get out and stretch their legs before continuing their journey. The reason for the stops is the management style of the railroad.

Russia's management just doesn't push the trains too hard for a variety of reasons. For example, given the distances and the remote areas that the train passes through, they can not really afford a break down. It would take forever to get them fixed. Use the long stops to look around and cherish the idea that you don't have to spend all of your time during the 7 days on the train.

Also, Train travel in Russia is well, a bit complicated as well as amusing. Rather than trying to make sense about it, we have provided a list of FAQs about Russian Train Travel. It's very interesting reading and we strongly suggest that your print it out and read it.
