Need help choosing the granite color

in Introduce Yourself or Your Problem

Hi,
I have maple caramel cabinets ,white tile floor and white appliances.I am leaning towards
tropical brown and my wife is leaning towards golden garnet.we would appreciate your
suggestion on this .
thanks,
Anil.

Go with Tropical Brown Granite

Anil's Kitchen beforeAnil, thanks for sending me the photo of the kitchen. I would definitely go wth the Tropical Brown granite. It is the better of the two.

The floor that you have looks like it has a bit of color in it. I reminds me of a Porcelanosa Botticino. it is a very cool color and does not go well with your warm maple cabinets. I can see that the grout is white. Of course it shows dirt, but I would not do gray. That is just going to call more attention to the floor which you don't want to do. I would leave the grout as is. If you were starting from scratch I would replace the floor with a warmer color,

To really bring your Maple Cabinets together with the tropical brown granite top, I would choose a stronger color for the room and especially the backsplash area.

Take a look at what we did in our kitchen. We have similar cabinetry and used a strong color in the backslash area. See http://www.millennialliving.com/Activities/Renovation/Paint/choosingpaintcolor.htm. There are many good ideas for other colors that may work such as http://www.millennialliving.com/content/paint-colors-and-stains-kitchen-cabinets-and-kitchens. Don't be afraid of color. A bold color on the backslash will do wonders. So spend a few dollars on paper and paint and experiment. Just use the techniques in the first article and experiment.

Hope this helps.

It's hard to choose colors on the internet

Seems like no one wants to wade in so I will. Anil, you mention that you have maple caramel cabinets and a white floor. When I combine these together I have more questions than answers. Nevertheless I will give you an answer, but first several questions.

1) Is the color of the floor a bright refrigerator white or some variation? Send us a photo.

2) Maple Caramel cabinets- this is tough. Manufacturers call their colors by all exotic names but there is no standard. Again a photo would be helpful

3) What will be the paint color of the kitchen wall? What about the adjoing room(s and are those rooms open to the kitchen.

4) How much natural light in the room? Are u installing new lighting? So how come I am asking this?? Because a very dark kitchen will look like a dungeon with very dark granite tops.

5) How large is the kitchen? I want to know how much of that white floor is showing?

Now for some answers:

Based in what you told me I would probably go with the Tropical Brown. At least it will create some contrast and interest with the cabinetry. The golden garnet has lots of white in it and the photo above it looks pinkish. Not my taste and it will clash with those Maple Caramel cabinets. The golden garnet It would go well with the a very bright white floor, but I am think you have a different shade of white. Perhaps it is more of an antique white or warmer white.

Depending on the photos that you may or may not get around to sending me, the answer could be neither tropic brown or golden garnet. That because you have to have all the colors you are going to use in front of you when you make a selection.

While this response may not be what you were wanting to here, it's the best I can do without some additional photos.

Tropical brown vs. golden garnet granite

Anil,

Lets see if anyone out there has some ideas on what color is preferable. Here are the colors of the granite:
