When it comes to the 1.1 billion cars and trucks on the road across the world, the talk is usually about flex fuel or hydbrid cars or trucks. It seems like there are few pure plays that readily acknowledge that any country's dependence on oil is a big mistake and actually does something about it. A relatively new company called Better Place does.
Today, the only person that consistently has raised concern about our dependence on oil is T. Boone Pickens. To illustrate just how harmful this is to the U.S., he has gone to great lengths to illustrate how much money we are paying each month for foreign oil. loosing each month. In December 2008, we imported 379.6 million barrels of oil or 66.5% of what we use http://www.pickensplan.com/oilimports/. We paid foreign countries $19.3 billion.
Today, there are 1.1 billion cars and trucks on the road globally. Experts believe that this will double to 2.3 billion by the year 2030. So in a sense the demand for oil and gasoline will increase and we all know that prices will be very high.
Knowing the problem doesn't necessarily mean that you have a good solution. However, we all know that this requires a drastic change from the way we power our cars and trucks. One company that has a radical idea and system on how to get us off oil is Better Place. They have an exciting idea of how to truly move us away from oil and towards renewable energy. Better Place is more than an idea. In fact, cities, countries and car makers are actually involved in this.
